Commissioning and Performance Test of 2 Fire Pump Units at PT. Bungasari Flour Mills Medan

Medan, January 21, 2021 – PT. Pro Engineering Utama, appointed as the authorized service partner of SPP Pumps and Kirloskar Brother, successfully completed the commissioning and performance test for two fire pump units at PT. Bungasari Flour Mills located in Medan. This step was taken to ensure that the installation of the fire pump units was correctly installed and in accordance with the standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), namely NFPA 20 and NFPA 25.

Fire pumps are a crucial component in fire suppression systems, which must operate optimally whenever needed, especially during fire emergencies. Therefore, performance testing was conducted to evaluate the performance of these two fire pump units.

The two fire pump units tested consist of one electric pump and one diesel pump. The testing was conducted in two methods: automatic and manual. The automatic method ensures that the system can operate without human intervention during a fire, while the manual method ensures that operators can control the pump directly if necessary.

The commissioning process included verifying the physical installation and initial inspection to ensure that all components were correctly installed according to the design. Following this, a performance test was conducted, covering several aspects, including:

1. Flow Capacity Test: Ensuring that the fire pump can deliver water at the specified capacity.
2. Pressure Test: Ensuring that the water pressure generated is sufficient to reach all protected areas.
3. Reliability Test: Testing the fire pump’s ability to operate continuously for the specified duration.
4. Responsiveness Test: Ensuring that the fire pump can activate immediately when triggered, both automatically and manually.

This series of tests is crucial to ensure that the fire suppression system at PT. Bungasari Flour Mills is reliable in emergency situations. The test results showed that both fire pump units functioned well and met the set standards.

With the completion of the commissioning and performance tests, PT. Bungasari Flour Mills has demonstrated its commitment to safeguarding its facilities and employees from fire risks. This effort is part of the company’s preventive measures to ensure they are ready to handle emergencies whenever they occur.
